hi craig, great post... you have many good ideas listed, some which i already use and some which i plan to use.
i'd like to share a few tips of mine so that others may benefit. typically, i leave my 3-pages of endorsements with the interviewer at the end of our first meeting. that said, i have my likedin profile URL on my resume so that my endorsements can be read by the interviewer prior to our meeting if s/he is so inclined. at other times, i forward my endorsements as an attachment to my follow up thank you email. to me, it is the mint on the sorbet.
i also have a hard copy and e-portfolio (a ppt). in the ppt version, i give ROI and other success metrics for my campaigns. however, i don't present the challenge that prompted the solution... this is something that i will add. great idea -- thanks!
a few comments...
perhaps one thing to add to your tips is the importance of a well written cover letter that is completely custom and targeted to the opportunity at hand (these days it is probably an email rather than a traditional cover letter). we have moved from mass communications to one to one communications in the way we promote our brands, and so we must also apply this same strategy to the way we promote ourselves.
i would also add the importance of sending a thank you / follow up email after the interview. personally, i do this within 48-hours. again, this should be completely custom written and focus on one or two "pain points" the client has that you were able to identify during the interview. then you can site results you have achieved in these areas, assuring the employer that you bring a platform of success with you in his/her most critical areas of need.
i always send these thank you notes via email... a hand written note just seems too personal and less professional to me, although back in the day it was always advised that the note should be handwritten. your thoughts?

Hi Craig...Thanks for the information on the resume writing. I have not had to be bothered with writing on in over 5yrs but due to this outsourcing thing, I am in the thick of it. Writing a resume actually scares me but I am going to follow the steps you have outlined. Thanks for being a resource to draw from....
